This week we learned how to use ScratchJr to create a computer program to animate a character. We also learned about Isabel the Inventor. She is helping us learn that there can be many correct responses, it is important to see things creatively, and it is a good idea to piggyback ideas from each other. Remember you can view all of our activities on your child's Seesaw account!
We had a great day of learning and challenges today! We started with our Waker Upper, Duck Feet and Middles to increase our thinking skills. Next we completed our final lesson with Dudley the Detective. He taught us about deductive thinking: 1) look for all of the clues 2) do not jump to conclusions 3) be patient 4) there is only 1 right answer. Finally, we began our Computer Science Unit with PLTW Launch: Animated Story Telling. We created programs for Rosie the Robot Dog!
Thomasville National Bank Financial services is sponsoring another raffle to support Harper. Tickets are $20.00 and the donations will go towards supporting 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Harper students for field trips.

Whew! We had a busy and productive day at 1st Grade GATES today! In our first block "Basic Knowledge" we worked on learning our city, county, state, country, continent, and planet. We used a map on the ipad to help us identify the areas. We completed Robot Writing and Strange People Waker Upper - which gave us several challenges. Next, we used QR codes to log onto our digital portfolio site SeeSaw. We learned how to add our work to Seesaw, record our thoughts, take photos and edit photos all in SeeSaw. We completed a fun creative activity in Seesaw too - making a new picture from a coffee ring (Beautiful Oops!). Then, we learned about Dudley the Detective. Detective Thinking means we look at all of the clues, don't jump to conclusions, and find the one and only right answer. Next week we will start work on our Multiple Intelligence's assessment to help us find our strengths!
